A comment you made about green foam set the wheels a turning and I think I either what it is or at least have several possible substitutes.
ReplyDeleteI think it may be a product called Corfoam and sometimes called Dunaboard (it is urethane foam and they have a bunch of different weights and types). At the very least it’s green according to the company you are using it exactly for its intended purpose.
The other is something called sculpture foam it I was only able to find it on Amazon and I’m not sure of its exact properties. The last is Balsa Foam and Balsa Foam II which would fill the need if necessary. These are made by Amaco (American Art Clay Company).

Hi Kris,
ReplyDeleteThe product I use is SIKA Block M150 and is/was intended as professional sculpting foam (to model prototypes or masters). I have seen it for sale in huge quantities but NOT in useful modelling amounts. You can obtain samples from some importers, but these samples are tiny. See link for more details.

I hope that this helps.

So it sounds like the right stuff, more or less, is the corafoam also known as DUNA board. I can get a 12x12x1 inch square of it for $25. The 15# version happens to be green so I will give that a try. There is a sculpture supply place that has it in more useful sizes than 4’x8’ sheets.
