On-Line Build for January - part four

It is fair to say that this months On-Line Build/Pledge has been very slow and I doubt if the Ram will be finished for some time. The model is a great little sculpt and I have wanted to complete the painting, it is just that the cold weather has been so off putting.

In these two photos, I have completed the saddle (but still need to add some detail), the horns hoofs and bridle have been painted but I still require a couple of days of 'warmer' weather to tempt me down the shed and to complete the model as well as paint the rider.

So there it is the first On-Line Build I have failed to complete in the planned time, not a very good start to the New Year. I promise to do better in the future.

On-Line Build for January - part three

My January 2014 On-Line build has been a bit of a disaster, cold weather and lack of modelling time has put this project in serious danger of not being finished on time. I have forced myself to battle the elements and sit in my cold shed painting this Ram.

Photos One and Two - The colour scheme was found after a Google search. I have painted the predominantly white coat over a pale cream colour. with the dark brown/black areas focused on the forward shoulders and head area.

Photos Three and Four - Moving on, I have tried to define the dark brown/black areas and once again highlighter the white areas with Skull White. The saddle cloth is going to be cream with black or brown strapping.

There is still lots to do but at least the painting has progressed - slowly I admit, but still progressed. The groundwork has been built up from Snakebite Leather, highlighted with Snakebite and Skull White.

More to follow - hopefully.

The Ship in a Bottle

A very special model.

This weekend Sue and I were visiting Swansea, we were attending my Mother-in Laws 90th birthday. For Friday and Saturday we played hosts to lots of family who had also made the special trip to Sketty.

This ship in a bottle was given to Sue and I by Reg, an old family friend who we very rarely get to see. The reason it is so special is that the model was built by my Father over 40 years ago.

I have often written about the models that my father made, but I do not own even one photograph of his creations. So you see why this gift is so very personal to me. I can remember him making these ships in a bottle models, in fact I still own some of the custom-made tools that he used to use. I believe this may be the ONLY surviving model and Sue and I are so very grateful to Reg for presenting it to us. Thank you Reg.

Dad passed away nearly fifteen years ago. I will treasure this little model.

IPMS 2013 - AFV Photos

A special treat for all Tread-Heads. This fourth photos report features some of the tank and AFV model vehicles on display at IPMS Scale Model World, Telford 2013. I hope you like them.
