Scratch Built 40K Gobsmasha

Today's post is a real 'blast-from-the-past'. A scratch built Orc 40k Gobsmasha that was built nearly thirty years ago using plans included in an old White Dwarf magazine. The model was built during a holiday at my Mother-in-Laws and uses bits and pieces found around the house. The finished model was featured as a showcase model in the old Swansea Models and Hobbies store, Swansea.

The core construction was some thick card, which had been 'layered' with more card to give a strong basis on which to add detailing.

Some of the scrap material used includes, Christmas decorations, pen barrels and tops, a Pritt glue stick for the gun barrel and rivets sliced from artificial flower stems.

The wheels were cut from beer mats and covered with more card and detailed with more cut up beer mat card and some spare washers.

The model was undercoated with grey primer (a rattle can spray paint) and the treads on the wheels are lentils/split peas, stuck in place with PVA glue.

The whole model was 'textured' by splattering the tank with watered-down Milliput epoxy putty which gave the model a solid base for painting and added some subtle interest to the basic and plain panels.

Painting went a little haywire; tiger stripes and lots of rust. I particularly liked the eyes painted on the front.

The exhausts were painted in a basic rust colour and the exhaust staining was drybrushed black.

Some time after it was on display in Swansea Models and Hobbies, it was returned to me and I thought I had placed it in the attic. I am sorry to say that I no longer know where it is. But at least I have these images, which were found when I was searching through some old photographs earlier this week.

I hope you like the Gobsmasha - it was great fun to build and paint.

Apocalypse Miniatures Olde-World Resin now available on e-bay

I recently came across these resin buildings for sale on the Apocalypse Miniatures e-bay site. The masters for all of the main buildings were modelled by me and cast in resin by Hysterical Games for a Kickstarter Campaign back in 2016. For anyone interested in purchasing the models from Ryan, see this link.

I have one or two examples of raw resin in my own 'to-be-painted' stash and hopefully I'll get around to painting my own pieces soon.

This link gives more information of the Olde World Kickstarter.

The Witches Hovel

Here is the latest terrain piece for the Apocalypse Miniatures Kickstarter - Olde World Into The Wild. The Witches Hovel or Cottage. The master was sculpted by me as a super stretch goal, but as the Kickstarter has gone so well Ryan has agreed to include it as an 'Add On'. Here you see it beside the Two Storey House to show just how big this beauty is.

For more information please use this link.

The model is unique in this range as it has a fully modelled interior and a lift off thatched roof.

Act now as there is less than a week to go on this Kickstarter and I know that once the initial pledges have been made, Ryan is looking to remove the discounted price option.

I hope you like it.

The Stone Bridge for the Apocalypse Miniatures Kickstarter

This is another image of the finished stone bridge that I built for the Apocalypse Miniatures Kickstarter Campaign. I am particularly proud of this model as it used a new DAS sculpting technique rather than a core structure covered in DAS. When the shape was fully defined and the DAS was set, I carved the stonework with scalpel, before refining the shape with a large needle. Additional texturing was done with sandpaper and a wire brush.

I have a resin cast (cast by Rob Alderman of Hysterical Games) and I will be painting it up very soon.

The Kickstarter is due to be launched later this year and I will add further details once I have more information.

More resin from Hysterical Games

Another post and another look at some of the new resin casts that Rob Alderman of Hysterical Games has produced for me from my originals. These particular resin pieces were original intended as 'clutter' items for the bases of my scratch built terrain models, but I'm sure you can twist Rob's arm should you want a set (or two).

The first image shows some barrels, all of which were sculpted or modified by me from some earlier sculpted models I had made. The image below shows a book case, lots of small bottles, pots and pans which were once again modelled by me and intended as clutter. Should these and the earlier mushrooms prove popular, I can see me producing more.

Happy Bank Holiday.

Mushrooms from Hysterical Games

Following hot on the heels of yesterdays post, here are some resin mushrooms that I picked up from Rob at Hysterical Games earlier this week. The mushrooms were sculpted by me for use as decoration on the bases of Hysterical Games Panzerfauste miniatures and the Olde Hammer Apocalypse Miniatures Terrain Kickstarter.

Uses for resin mushrooms;
1 - Toadstool Decoration for wargame terrain - adding the small mushrooms to the bases of fantasy terrain or large individual miniatures and painting them as traditional red with white spots mushrooms would add colour to most fantasy terrain.

2 - Mushroom Mines - small batches of three or five mushrooms on a small plastic base could be used as minefields in Panzerfauste. Any model that was within 10 cms of the mushrooms when the mines go off could be effected by the explosion. Death, sleep of or vomiting could be the effect/effects.

3 - Fungi as Food - Use the resin mushrooms as objective markers in fantasy games, Goblins and Orcs would collect tokens which could be objectives in the game.

I cannot find the mushrooms on the Hysterical Games web site, so contacting Rob Alderman at Hysterical Games would be the best way forward should you want a set or two.....

Pig Sty for Apocalypse Miniatures Kickstarter

Sue and I were babysitting in Leamington Spa yesterday afternoon, looking after our grandson Finley. On the way over I stopped off at Hysterical Games to drop off the latest masters to Rob Alderman for the Olde Hammer - Apocalypse Miniatures Kickstarter and picked up this example of the Pig Sty casting that I sculpted some time ago - this is the very first resin cast of this model which will feature as part of the Kickstarter campaign due to be launched later this year.

I didn't stay long as Rob and Hannah were busy re-arranging some storage shelving for the tons of newly cast resin, hopefully I can visit later in the year and spend more time discussing the different projects Rob is working on.
